Time has always posed challenges for those who work in the media industry. Such a complex field has a great number of interrelated components – from social change to revolutionary advances in technology.
We suggest taking a look at social processes in a much broader way by studying journalism, media management, directing, editing, the stages of the creative process, and the production cycle of creating a media product – simply put, everything that can be called journalism, media, and communications.

This Year, 274 Applications Were Submitted to the VK Creative Laboratory — 31 Students Reached the Final
Over the course of two months, students worked on creative tasks from various VK business units — VKontakte (ВКонтакте), Zen (Дзен), Odnoklassniki (Одноклассники), Prostor (Простор), VK Play, and VK’s Information Security (Информационная безопасность VK).
The final presentation was held at VK’s office in Moscow.Seven student teams showcased the results of their work. Throughout the project, participants analysed target audiences, competitors, conducted research, worked on SMM campaigns, designed sticker packs, and created show scripts.
The VK Play team achieved significant results in just two months: they increased the number of subscribers, boosted traffic of the platform, and reached 16,000 views on one of their videos.
The students actively engaged with the audience, weren’t afraid to respond to challenging questions from experts, and stood by their creative decisions.
Yulia Ulitina, a student from the Faculty of Media at HSE, shared her impressions:
“It was an interesting experience. Of course, I would’ve liked more in-person interactions, but I really appreciated how the VK professionals approached working with the teams. It was inspiring — it made me want to be part of a community like that.”
Darya Yegorova, another student from the Faculty of Media, added:
“It was interesting to hear the creative solutions to some rather complex cases. I was especially impressed by the case for the VKontakte Fandom Fest. I didn’t expect that level of creativity and such a variety of ideas from the students.”
At the end of the event, all participants received personalised certificates and branded gifts from VK Education and HSE University.
