About the Faculty

The Faculty of Creative Industries at the Higher School of Economics was founded in 2014, and today it is a center of attraction for talented applicants from all over Russia who want to develop themselves in creative professions and become successful independent players in the creative industries. Our students — designers, journalists, illustrators, marketers, media managers, PR specialists, artists, photographers —  are cool specialists whose work cannot be automated, which means that the demand for them in modern conditions will only grow. 

Educational system at the Faculty is built on an effective balance of an actual theoretical base and a project-based approach to education, which allows our graduates to work on real problems during their studies in order to confidently build their careers .

The faculty includes 3 educational divisions: 

The Institute of Media trains specialists in the field of journalism and media. From the very 1st year students apply the knowledge gained in practice, creating their own multimedia and transmedia projects. Head of the Institute of Media: Bystritskiy Andrey Georgievich — professor, member of the Academic Council of the Higher School of Economics.

Master's programs: «Management in the Media», «Transmedia Production in Digital Industries», «Data Journalism», «Film Production in a Multi-Platform Environment», «International News Production», «Critical Media Research».  

The School of Communication trains professionals in the field of communications who are able to adapt to a dynamically developing market. Main areas of studies: PR, digital, advertising, event, and marketing. 

Head of the School of Communication: Sergey Zverev — professor, president of CROS company.

HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL: faculty department, which was recognized as the best Russian university in the Art and Design category of the QS-2020 rating. At HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL there are educational profiles in more than 14 areas of design, fashion and contemporary art. 

Head of HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL: Arseny Meshcheryakov — designer, creator of the Agey Tomesh design bureau and WAM Books publishing house.

HSE ART AND DESIGN SCHOOL has its campuses in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and in 2021 the first admission to the online bachelor's degree «Design» will take place.

The faculty has a Media center and a Recording studio, Students’ communication agency, HSE ART GALLERY (gallery of contemporary art), Laboratory of media communications in education, HSE Design Laboratory, as well as the scientific journal «Communications. Media. Design». In 2009, the LIME social advertising festival was established.

And since 2018 the Faculty has launched its own annual international festival of communications, media and design Telling Stories Fest, which has already become a notable city event that brings together leading international speakers — successful professionals in the creative industries.
