At the end of last year, the media institute's university-wide elective "Popularising Science on TEDx" ended. The course resulted in a speech-concert in which the student speakers worked out how to "get out of the mazes of the brain".

Journalism is a creative profession. It requires constant practice and the improvement of skills. Students at the Media Institute get the chance to do this during their studies. At project-based seminars, teachers help students master the specifics of writing, editing, filming, and sound. Many courses require students to produce a real journalistic piece of work, be it a podcast series, a TV programme, their own online editorial, or an audio report.

On February 10, the creative director of the educational program "Journalism", the host of the TV channel "Moscow 24" Ivan Knyazev held a master class "News format: how to create a vivid text?".

The rector toured the campus on Khitrovka, examined the condition of classrooms and studios, the student canteen, visited the FCI (Faculty of Creative Industries) media.center. During the discussion with Ernest Matskyavichyus, director of the Media Institute, he learned more about the facility and  plans to improve it.

On November 30, students of the Higher School of Economics visited the Audit Chamber, where they learned about the history of the supreme audit institution.

Students of the HSE Master's programme in Transmedia Production in Digital Industries joined efforts with staff of Moscow museums to create an e-book ‘Teenagers at Museums: How Curators and Tutors Help People Find Themselves’. The HSE News Service talked with the project authors about their choice of topic and what it is like to work as a book producer.

For two years in a row, students in the Master’s programme in Transmedia Production in Digital Industries have worked closely with publishing and museum experts, as well as lecturers from the HSE School of Media to reinvent the role of printed books and the traditional tasks of Russian museums. Some of their book projects were presented at the Non-fiction exhibition this year, and the museum projects will be implemented for the public.

On November 30, 2016, the ‘Digital Publishing’ course was presented at the book fair non/fictio№18.
Students of the ‘Media production in Creative Industries’ MA programme who have just published several digital collections, spoke about how to produce a book in two months. The lecturers shared their opinion on the challenges and difficulties of the course, and the writers and publicists – on their experience of participating in the project.

On November 4th, 2016, students from many countries took part in an online broadcast to discuss the final stage of the US presidential campaign 2016. The event was organized by the Global Campus Network at Ryerson University, Toronto. Two students from HSE's Faculty of Communications, Media, and Design delivered their report from the HSE Media Centre.

This summer, Milena Rubleva, a fourth-year student of Journalism at HSE, presented a visualization of her study at the Connected Life 2016: Collective Action and the Internet Conference. She told the HSE News Service about the conference that was hosted by PhD students at the Oxford Internet Institute, which is part of the University of Oxford.
