At the end of February, a large-scale event dedicated to the Covid-19 pandemic took place in the building of the National Research University Higher School of Economics on Pokrovsky Boulevard. It was a unique moment that allows us to learn from the current experience.

On February 12, the HSE Media Institute and students welcomed a distinguished guest, Kirill Didenok, a digital producer and the brain behind DNK Music and DIDENOK TEAM communication agency, as well as a member of the academic council of the Media Communications Association.

The Higher School of Economics (HSE) in Moscow, Russia hosted a study tour program from November 16th to 24th, 2023 for international master's enrollees of media-related programs. The tour offered two subjects in English - "Culture, Media and Research" from the Critical Media Studies education program and "Introduction to Alternative Media" from the Contemporary Journalism syllabus (the International News Production track). This allowed students to gain exposure to these topics through both online and in-person lectures and discussions.

In the autumn of 2023, students of the Media Institute will have the opportunity to create a colour s upplement to one of the most famous business publications in our country as part of a creative workshop curated by the "Vedomosti" newspaper. Such a startup is a unique opportunity for future media industry specialists to go through the full cycle of print media creation, from concept to monetization, while being directly inside the production "kitchen".

One of the important innovations in the educational process of the Media Institute in the 2023–24 academic year will be the organization of a new format of practice-oriented classes with the involvement of journalists—professionals of the highest class, VGTRK's own correspondents and heads of the reporters' offices in different countries.

From June 19 to 23, the summer media school "Media Vacation" of the Department of Pre-University Preparation of the National Research University Higher School of Economics took place for students in grades from 8 till 10. The event was attended by professors and staff of the Media Institute. The training culminated in the defense of group projects.

On March 28, "Sirius" hosted the launch of the fourth season of the largest project for children and teenagers—the all-Russian contest "Bolshaya Peremena". Ernest Matskyavichyus, Director of the Media Institute, was awarded the First Prize in the category "For Contribution to the Development of the Movement of the Firsts".

Before enrolling the Media Institute, most applicants want to get a hands-on understanding of how their studies will work. The Study tour provides that opportunity. Anyone considering enrolling at the Institute of Media will be able to get a firsthand look at the educational process, lecturers, and future classmates.

In February, the annual Media Institute Winter School came to an end. Applicants could choose from four master's degree programs: "Media Management", "Transmedia Production in Digital Industries", "Critical Media Studies" and "Contemporary Journalism". On successful completion of the Winter School, participants receive a certificate and an additional five points in the portfolio competition for admission to the chosen profile.

"Rossiya 1" TV channel prepared a story about a new special course for future journalists, developed with the participation of the HSE Media Institute team and currently taking place at the Sirius Educational Centre in Sochi.
