On April 6, 2015 a regular research seminar of Teacher-Student Team Research Project ‘Russian Regional Media Market’ took place at HSE. Katja Lehtisaari, Postdoctoral Researcher at Aleksanteri Institute (University of Helsinki, Finland) gave a lecture titled ‘Challenges for Media Management in Russia: Newspapers in a Converged Environment’.
The lecturer explained how the current operational environment of newspaper publishing has changed, and how the industry is prepared for the possible new challenges around the corner. Lehtisaari assumes that while the Russian media model relies heavily on the central role of TV, newspapers still have an important though diminishing role in producing news and forming daily media agenda. During the event the participants discussed three main areas of challenges for media management: market forces, technological challenges, and political aspect of operational environment.
Katja Lehtisaari’s current research interests include Russian and Finnish media and questions like the development of the press market structures and media convergence. She is a visiting research fellow at the Reuters Insitute for the Study of Journalism, University of Oxford in January 2015 - June 2015.
