Students launch a portal about HSE's eco-life

Students from the Faculty of Communications, Media and Design led by Alexander Kupriyanov - Academic Director of the educational program "Media Communications" - launched a new page on the university's portal about eco-habits and principles.

In future there will be a permanent media project with news and articles on the HSE eco agenda. We interviewed the project team members and they told us the details of the project and what HSE need such a platforms for.

Alexander Kupriyanov
Programme Academic Supervisor:Media Communications

The project started from the discussion between me and the portal's director Dmitry Koptyubenko about the way we can use the potential of students from the Communications, Media, and Design Faculty for the HSE good, in particular, for university portals development. During the discussion, we concluded that sustainable consumption and eco-friendly behaviour are the part of the HSE identity, we support such student organizations and initiatives, but it is not articulated anywhere. We agreed that this is an essential feature of our image, and it is necessary to introduce it to applicants and their parents, staff and university students.

A group of students from the ‘Journalism’ and ‘Media Communications’ programs studied the materials provided by Green HSE and used it to create texts for the environmental portal. It turned out in some instruction how to be “green” cheap and chic, where you can drop materials for recycling, what eco organizations have HQ at the university. Also, Victoria Maslova, a 2nd-year student of the ‘Journalism’ programme, created an original identity that was used in this project. This was a very good experience both for students and for the HSE. Students made an actual and significant project, gained experience, and the HSE used students’ skills in the actual project. This should be implied constantly.

We would like to start a permanent project based on this static page, where we can post news and articles about HSE eco-agenda: events, new recycling boxes opening, eco-research, comments - such a little media that broadcasts the eco-news in the HSE. The project can also develop in other ways like sports, the life of student organizations, and so on. These ways have a good potential on the portal.
