This summer, Milena Rubleva, a fourth-year student of Journalism at HSE, presented a visualization of her study at the Connected Life 2016: Collective Action and the Internet Conference. She told the HSE News Service about the conference that was hosted by PhD students at the Oxford Internet Institute, which is part of the University of Oxford.
On April 25th and 26th, 2016, an international conference ‘Comparing Media Systems in BRICS Countries: A Review of Conventional Paradigms’ took place at HSE. The event was organized by the Faculty of Communications, Media and Design, and supported by IAMCR.
The first book ever written about the public relations industry, ‘Crystallizing Public Opinion’ by Edward Bernays, was translated in Russian with the support of HSE and the Agency of Strategic Communications ‘Nikkolo M’.

This semester Olga Matyash, Adjunct Professor at Ivy Tech State College (Indiana, USA), has been a visiting scholar at HSE, teaching courses on interpersonal communication and public speaking at the HSE School of Integrated Communications (Faculty of Communications, Media and Design). Professor Matyash agreed to speak with the HSE news service to share the secrets of successful public speaking and shed light on the role of communication studies in our life.
Renira Gambarato is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Communications, Media and Design,School of Media. Originally from Brazil, Renira has been at HSE since 2013. She talked to Anna Chernyakhovskaya of the HSE English News Service about her experience of adjusting to living and working as an academic in Russia and about her joint project with HSE and Brazilian researchers on media convergence of global sporting events and opportunities to air feelings of social injustice.
On April 6, 2015 a regular research seminar of Teacher-Student Team Research Project ‘Russian Regional Media Market’ took place at HSE. Katja Lehtisaari, Postdoctoral Researcher at Aleksanteri Institute (University of Helsinki, Finland) gave a lecture titled ‘Challenges for Media Management in Russia: Newspapers in a Converged Environment’.
Lyubov Borusiak, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Communications, Media and Design, School of Integrated Communications will be giving a paper at the XVI International April Conference on Economic and Social Development about her research into social networks and what young Russians read. She talked to the HSE English Language News service about her findings and about whether Russian reading habits are changing with the new generation.
