On 23 November, the HSE Institute of Media held its Bachelor’s Open Day. The event filled the hall with prospective applicants and their parents, who came to learn more about the Institute’s undergraduate programmes. From early morning, the Pokrovsky Boulevard campus had a special buzz: prize draws for branded merch, a mobile TV studio, lively conversations and high-school students with eyes full of excitement.

On 19 November 2025, more than 250 young researchers from universities, schools and partner institutions in Pakistan, China, Tajikistan, Vietnam, Iraq, Syria and other countries gathered at HSE University for the Third «Young Media» Student Research Conference.

Pavel Melnikov, head of the television department at the Higher School of Journalism (VShN), helps future  journalists take their first steps in the profession. For 15 years, Pavel Yevgenyevich worked as a correspondent for Rossiya 1, and in 2016 he was awarded the Moscow Prize for his coverage of the city's historical and cultural events. After years in television, he joined what he calls  the "best university in the world" to pass on his experience to young journalists by creating a unique newsroom workshop where students can feel like part of a real editorial team.

The Journalism program at HSE University was launched in 2007. Since then, much has changed: the Institute of Media has been established, and the curriculum has been enriched with new disciplines. We sat down with the program’s Academic Supervisor, Professor at the Institute of MediaIvan Knyazev, to discuss the program’s recent changes, its future tracks, and the secrets about managing a program that launched nearly 40 new courses in just two years.

The «Media Communication» program at the Institute of Media is led by a unique dual leadership: Academic Head Irina Petrovna Kumanova and Creative Head Yulia Sergeevna Apollonova. The next educational shift «Journalism and literary creativity» has ended at Sirius. This year it was attended by 70 high school students from different parts of Russia.

On April 24, the final event of the VK Creative Laboratory took place. Students presented their projects to guests and heads of the company’s business units.

On April, 17 and 24, prospective students got to experience life at HSE University during the Study tour for the «Journalism» and «Media Communications» programmes.

On April 17, the participants of «Rossiyskaya Gazeta» course programme concluded their training in the official press of the country.

In a world of fierce competition and rapid information flow, journalists help people navigate the complex ecosystem of business media. They provide deep insights and forecasts that can shift outcomes — and sometimes even shape history.

On March 24, students from the HSE Institute of Media took part in a meeting with Maria Zakharova, Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Department. The discussion took place as a part of the interuniversity Media club «TOP of the month».

From January 31 to February 2, senior undergraduate and specialist students, along with alumni from previous years, actively participated in master classes led by HSE instructors. They worked in teams and developed their own projects. All of this is intended to help them achieve their goal – admission to the graduate programs of the Institute of Media.

The supervisors of the «Journalism» and «Media Communications» programmes at the HSE Institute of Media told the applicants about the curriculum, extracurricular activities and future job perspectives. The meeting was led by the Institute of Media Director, Ernest Matskyavichuys.

The International Youth Olympiad (IOM-2025), organized by the Higher School of Economics and providing young foreigners with the opportunity to enroll at  a Russian university, for the first time offered future journalists and media industry workers to use generative artificial intelligence (AI) to complete competitive tasks. The experiment showed that participants are coping well with new technologies, but also revealed new challenges in the usage of AI in the field of media.

On October 23, the debut of the theater «ex libris» took place in the assembly hall on Bolshoi Trekhsvyatitelsky Lane.

On March 2, an HSE Open Day for prospective undergraduates and specialist students will take place — one of the largest and most significant events for applicants, their parents, and the entire university. Visitors will have the opportunity to speak with students and representatives of educational programmes, plan their admission process, and immerse themselves in the HSE University atmosphere for a day. The event will be held in Russian.

Artem Protasov, a graduate of the Media Communications program, has been recognized for his innovative use of artificial intelligence in his graduation thesis, securing second place in HSE's specialized AI solutions competition.

In the 1980s, it was nearly impossible to find a resident of the former USSR who hadn't heard at least one song from the Italian pop scene. Hits like "Felicità," "L'Italiano," and "Mamma Maria" resonated from cassette players across the country, capturing the hearts of listeners of all ages. Concerts featuring Adriano Celentano, Ricchi e Poveri, and Toto Cutugno were a dream for many.
