Summing up the results of the Media Institute's Winter School
In February, the annual Media Institute Winter School came to an end. Applicants could choose from four master's degree programs: "Media Management", "Transmedia Production in Digital Industries", "Critical Media Studies" and "Contemporary Journalism". On successful completion of the Winter School, participants receive a certificate and an additional five points in the portfolio competition for admission to the chosen profile.

On March 12, a university-wide Open Day was held in the building on Pokrovsky Boulevard. Applicants and their parents were able to walk around the Atrium, attend faculty workshops, and talk to students and professors of the programmes they were interested in.

Journalism is a creative profession. It requires constant practice and the improvement of skills. Students at the Media Institute get the chance to do this during their studies. At project-based seminars, teachers help students master the specifics of writing, editing, filming, and sound. Many courses require students to produce a real journalistic piece of work, be it a podcast series, a TV programme, their own online editorial, or an audio report.

The Media Institute team takes part in new "Sirius" Сentre educational programme on the Black Sea coast
Sirius Educational Center launched a new programme called "Literary Creativity. Journalism and the Media". For three weeks, students from all over Russia will get acquainted with the media field and learn how the country's top journalists work. The programme was prepared by the National Research University Higher School of Economics, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, and the social network VKontakte. The course was co-authored by specialists from the Media Institute. Within the framework of the intensive, they will hold thematic workshops in the educational modules "Media Leaders" and "The School of Contemporary Media".

On February 18, a master class was held at the Media Institute's media centre by Konstantin Muchnik, chief cameraman of the Russian State TV company. The event was attended by his colleagues, who are also practitioners. The experts talked about the peculiarities of cameraman work and what they will teach at their practical course, "The Mastery of Videographer in the Modern Media Environment," which starts on March 22.
