'Moscow Really Changed My Idea of Time'

We continue our project about international students of Higher School of Economics. Our hero for today - Lorenzo Tosi, who came from Italy, Cesenatico, University of Bologna. Lorenzo told us about “famous” Russian bureaucracy, his life in dormitory and favorite places in Moscow.

International Perspective

On June 4, 2017, HSE is holding ‘The Whole World at HSE’ festival, dedicated to the cultures of different peoples. It’s a great opportunity for many international students to share information about their country’s culture and explain how Russian culture might be perceived by people with a different mentality. HSE international students and faculty have shared their views on both their and our respective cultures.

International conference: «Art or journalism: photography in modern Russian history»
The main issue of the conference is to study how debates about photography in the socialism epoch influenced the development of photography industry and fine arts in USSR, starting in 1920 and up to Soviet Union demise. The conference organizers want to pay  special attention to the photography development in the regions out of Moscow and Leningrad, and also to the development of Soviet visual art n the postwar period.

HSE’s Projects for the City
Staff from the Design Laboratory (the design wing of the HSE School of Design) teamed up with design students to carry out an extensive study on the territorial branding of Moscow’s various districts. In addition, undergraduate and graduate students of HSE MIEM developed ‘smart systems’ for monitoring urban space and managing energy consumption and lighting systems. The projects were presented to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin during his most recent visit to the Higher School of Economics.

What to Expect from Science in 2017: Design

What to Expect from Science in 2017: Design
The most important thing we must keep in mind when talking about future innovation is that there is no one single scenario or outcome. For instance, we may have forgotten or missed something, and this might appear as a surprise. Then, as follows, a new trend or area of studies will emerge. There also is a particular Russian specialty: some trends already exist, but it’s nevertheless impossible to understand their actual scale.
