Green HSE, a student environmental club, is taking part in the upcoming Moscow Flower Show, an international festival of gardens and flowers. As part of the HSE project ‘A University Open to the City’, students will give a presentation on mini parks, the goal of which is to revitalize one of Moscow’s abandoned mini parks or courtyards.

On June 16, the courtyard of the Art and Design School (HSE Faculty of Communications, Media and Design) was turned into a true podium with a fashion show taking place under the Black Box open sky. Thirteen original costume models were prepared by second-year students of the school as part of their final project defence.

The Art and Design School under the HSE Faculty of Communications, Media and Design has joined Cumulus, an international association of universities and schools of arts, design and media.

Renira Gambarato is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Communications, Media and Design,School of Media. Originally from Brazil, Renira has been at HSE since 2013. She talked to Anna Chernyakhovskaya of the HSE English News Service  about her experience of adjusting to living and working as an academic in Russia and about her joint project with HSE and Brazilian researchers on media convergence of global sporting events and opportunities to air feelings of social injustice.

On May 28th, 2015, the festival of children’s and youth art, ‘We Draw the World on the Pavement’, took place in Strogino. The participants spent four hours turning the 162-sq.m. area in front of the HSE MIEM building into a canvas united by the themes of peace, joy and spring.  

Teachers from the HSE Faculty of Communications, Media and Design spoke at the annual International Association of Communications Conference, Communication Across the Life Span.

On 25th April 2015, the HSE students’ project Agents of Health Against Stroke took first place at a pitching session for non-commercial organisations at the Fifth Lime International Festival of Social Advertising in Moscow.

McKinsey Business Diving is one of the biggest business case solving competitions in Russia. This year it had 2700 student entries from 181 HEIs across the country. HSE students Evgenia Deusheva and Mark Shchetinin were on the winning team.

On April 6, 2015 a regular research seminar of Teacher-Student Team Research Project ‘Russian Regional Media Market’ took place at HSE.  Katja Lehtisaari, Postdoctoral Researcher at Aleksanteri Institute (University of Helsinki, Finland) gave a lecture titled ‘Challenges for Media Management in Russia: Newspapers in a Converged Environment’. 

On March 21, the HSE’s Art and Design School held a Design Environment open doors day. HSE news service spoke to the curator, Alexander Dzhikia about what students will do, about why designers carry out psychological consultations, and how to unravel the meaning and philosophy of the ‘Black Square’.
